Let God Show you the way
God Direction #2: Stand out
October 9, 2009
Condition: Hidden in plain sight
God Direction: Stand up and stand out
Have you ever lost something only to finally find it right in front of you? I have, it was hidden in plain sight. Why couldn’t I see it at first? Because it blended into its surroundings, it didn’t stand out. That is the way most of us live our lives as Christians. We blend in with everyone else. We don’t look or act much different than those around us. But Christ says:
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”1
God is asking you to stand up and stand out. We should be the salt, the flavoring or preservation, of the earth. He is asking us to be the light of the world showing others Christ. We are to be the city on a hill, someone all can see even at a distance knowing that you are a Christian. I know it is scary, but isn’t that what’s so great about it. I mean, lots of people love to pay money to be scared, they watch a scary movie, go on scary roller coaster rides, read scary books, and go to haunted houses. Why do we like scary things? We like scary because it excites us. Maybe that’s why so many people aren’t excited about being a Christian. We avoid the scary things that might excite us. We fall into the rut of our comfort zone. I look back at the times that I’ve been the most excited about Christ and it usually follows a scary moment. Getting up in front of others to sing about God and witness to them about what Christ has done in my life. That is scary to do. I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to start this web site. Talk about scary, for starters, I didn’t know how, what if people laugh at me, what if they don’t like me anymore, what if I mess up, all thoughts that scare me, but when I give it to God, things go as God wants it to go and in the end I am filled and excited about God. But if I avoid those situations, finding excuses not to stand up and stand out, I lose that edge, that excitement.
When we stand out as Christians, when we are servants to others and when we talk about Christ in our lives and do so with excitement, people take notice. That is what God can and will use to bring them to Him. That is how the lost get found. There’s a great song called “The Lost Get Found” by Britt Nicole. Watch & Listen
Here are the lyrics:
Hello my friend
I remember when you were
So alive with your wide eyes
Then the light that you had in your heart was stolen
Now you say that it ain't worth stayin'
You wanna run but you're hesitatin'
I'm talkin' to me
Chorus:
Don't let your lights go down
Don't let your fire burn out
'Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don't you rise up now?
Don't be afraid to stand out
That's how the lost get found
The lost get found

So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There's a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
There's a girl on the streets, she's cryin'
There's a man whose faith is dyin'
Love is calling you (chorus)

Why do we go with the flow
Or take an easier road?
Why are we playin' it safe?
Love came to show us the way
Love is a chance we should take
I'm movin' out of the way

Don't let your lights go down
Don't let your fire burn out
'Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
(Stand out)
Don't let your lights go down
Don't let your fire burn out
(Stand out)
'Cause somewhere, somebody needs a reason to believe
Why don't you rise up now?
Don't be afraid to stand out
That's how the lost get found
The lost get found

So when you get the chance
Are you gonna take it?
There's a really big world at your fingertips
And you know you have the chance to change it
