Let God Show you the way
What are you afraid of, or what do you fear?
Most fears can be summed up in a few things, some of the major ones are: Fear of the unknown, fear of being alone, and fear of death. Ultimately fear comes from the lack of trusting God. Don't worry I'm not condemning you nor will God condemn you for fear. We can look in the Bible and see faithful people who had fear. Some fear is healthy, it gives us a respect for those things that can harm us, or respect for those in authority. But the fears listed above can keep us from doing God's will.
The disciples had fear. Let's see how Jesus dealt with those fears.
Matthew 8:23-27
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”1
Jesus showed the disciples that they don't have to be afraid. They should put all their trust in God. The question is how do we do this. I think the important thing to realize is we can't fully trust God on our own but God will give us the strength to rely on Him. Let's go to another incident when the Disciples learned this same lesson, except this time let's watch and listen Dr. Woodrow Kroll at the Sea of Galilee explain the Bible passage of Matthew 14:13-33:
The key things we need to understand in order to have a faith that can fully trust God, we must:
  1. Understand we can't do it on our own.
  2. Spend quality quiet time with God in prayer and reading the Bible.
  3. Recognize that God is in control at all times.
  4. Understand that God will not give us more than we can handle.
Let's pray: Father God, we are sorry that we don't put our trust in You as much as we should. Help us to trust You. Make us a willing vessel that You can use for Your will. Help us find time to pray and study Your word. In Christ's Name, Amen
